Project Portfolio
My experiences as a researcher and educator are varied but all share the common goal of wanting to make a positive impact on the world. I truly value opportunities to help young people and organizations strive for their full potential. The following projects highlight my skills as a researcher, evaluator, communicator, and mentor.
Educational Climates, Pedagogy, & Assessment
-
With my students, we developed and assessed an intervention to teach campus members about implicit bias and growth mindsets about prejudice.
-
As part of a task force, I participated in preparation of an instrument to assess campus climate, coded qualitative data, and interpreted SPSS data analysis for executive summary. In addition, I presented the results to the campus community.
-
I was an early adopter of using technology in instruction and conducted research in my classes to assess the effectiveness of the tools on student learning.
-
I established an Undergraduate Research Conference and Program at MCLA and shared assessments of student outcomes at professional conferences.
School Bullying
-
At the request of school administration, my students and I conducted naturalistic observations of primary school students to measure the frequency of bullying behavior.
-
I assisted a colleague in developing a bullying intervention based on the theory of pluralistic ignorance for elementary and middle school students.
-
In collaboration with colleagues, I developed and evaluated the validity of an online measure with Berkshire County middle school students.
-
Over multiple semesters, I led a group of students in the creation and assessment of a peer-based bullying intervention program for high school students.
Youth Sports
-
I led a group of undergraduates in conducting naturalistic observations of parent behavior on the sidelines of youth soccer games and made appropriate recommendations to the league.
-
My students and I conducted naturalistic observations of coach behavior and surveyed player motivation in a premier youth soccer club to make recommendations to the coaches and club management. My students presented this work at the National Conference for Undergraduate Research.
-
I surveyed U12-U17 elite soccer players’ motivation and perceptions of coaching climate and made appropriate recommendations to the state Olympic Development Program.
-
I have over 15 years of experience as a youth, high school, and college coach. As a coach, I have been successful at instructing, motivating, and mentoring my athletes, a skill set I bring to every team I am on.
